First Day Of November, 3rd Day Without Power

11/1/2012

Is the Zombie apocalypse upon us?  The conditions in lower Manhattan have the potential for this to happen...
I being from the Lower East Side decided to flee before this started happening. I could tell as early as Tuesday afternoon that things could get ugly. Without electricity...well, a lot can go wrong. If you didn't foresee such an event (I sure didn't) I doubt you would have thought to pull out large sums of cash from the bank, and without power the banks can't be open and ATM machines don't work. IF there are any stores open (which they're aren't really) you can only purchase goods with cash.  The stores that are open, I went into one, are black inside, and shifty characters are milling about. There is one warm gatorade left in the non-working cooler....and this was only Tuesday. Things looked bleak...we bounced. We luckily have friends that live on the Upper West Side that were kind enough to take us in. Mind you, we called them via pay phone since lower Manhattan is also without cell service. Did you know there were still pay phones? Here in the UWS, it has been like a vacation, stores are open, lights still on, hot water is flowing. I feel bad for my East Village and Lower East Side brethren...who now on Thursday are 3 days without power, no way to buy food, and no food available...and the toilettes are no longer flushing. So, you see, the Zombies will be coming...
